The designers at Path To Publishing have taken a stand: Moving forward, if authors submit AI-generated/edited images for cover design, we will decline to work on those projects.

This is the result of a couple of clients desiring to use AI-generated images or images edited by AI being for their book cover design. Below is the statement we asked the author to acknowledge and accept before taking on/completing the project.

"This email is to let you know that since you chose to use AI generated/edited image(s) on your book cover, myself, Path To Publishing, and no members of our team will be held responsible for any copyright infringement issues or lawsuits that may arise as the result of you choosing to use an image(s) generated/edited by AI.

"We cannot and do not guarantee that the AI generated image(s) you provided us is fully legal to use and we cannot and will not attempt to make any adjustments to the image(s); this includes adjusting coloring, shading, tones, etc. What AI created for you is it. We will make no further edits to the image. We will not be held liable or take any responsibility for any issues or lawsuits that may arise anytime in the future for using AI generated/edited content/images on your book cover.

"Using AI generated/edited images for your book cover is 100% your decision and the image(s) used was provided to us, the service provider by you, the author/client. This includes images/designs we may have provided you that you then chose to edit using AI. Therefore, you take full/100% accountability and responsibility for the use of the AI generated and/or edited image(s). This includes images of people AI may have generated that could possibly knowingly or unknowinglyresemble the likes of real human beings who may at a later date email you, file a cease and desist order, or take other legal action."
