"Act Like an Author, Think Like a Business"

2019 Conference

Las Vegas, NV

September 26 - 28, 2019

“Going to conferences is a wonderful way to meet experts in different fields who want to help by sharing what they know.”-IngramSpark, Book Distributor

Path To Publishing

“Act Like an Author, Think Like a Business”

2019 Conference

On September 26-28 of 2019 at Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, the most phenomenal group of writers and authors, AKA literary artists and literary entertainers, will be gathered to display their dedication and commitment to the craft and business of writing and publishing by learning how to excel in their literary careers in a spirit of excellence.

Once registered for the conference, you become an official #Pathfinder and a member of the Path To Publishing private Facebook community. In our community, we are not just writers writing, publishing, and selling books. We are literary architects building literary empires!

Path To Publishing doesn’t just want you to learn how to publish like a pro, turn your book into a business, and create multiple streams of income to sustain your business, but we want you to master it! With that being said, the conference now doubles as an MBA in Publishing 50-hour program. That means you don't leave with a collection of simple handouts distributed by presenters and instructors; your conference registration includes digital access to the course curriculum.

Whether you are a reader thinking about writing a book, a writer ready to get paid for writing, a self- published author, traditionally published author, Print on Demand author (CreateSpace/IngramSpark), an author published through a vanity press/publishing assistance company, or a hybrid author (a combination of any of the pre-mentioned), the Path To Publishing "Act Like an Author, Think Like a Business" 2019 Conference being held September 26-28, 2019 in the STILL fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada is for you!

Regardless of if you're traditionally published, self-published or have an agent, your book is YOUR business.

If your publishing success is just as important to you as your writing success, then instead of going to yet another writing conference, don’t you think it’s time you attend a publishing conference?

If the business you build with your book to create multiple streams of income is just as important to you as book sales and royalties, then instead of going to another one of those “fun” conferences designed to give readers an experience with authors, don’t you think it’s time you attend a conference that can teach you how to make money as a writer and author outside of book sales and royalties, as well as learn how to publish a book that will give readers an experience within itself?

Are you ready to learn how to operate your literary business in thriving excellence and not mediocre struggle and lack?  If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then we’ll see you in Vegas at the “Act Like an Author, Think Like a Business” 2019 Conference at Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino!

Conference Host Hotel

Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, conveniently located off the main Las Vegas strip, will host the Path To Publishing “Act Like an Author, Think Like a Business” 2019 Conference. With its award-winning restaurants, adventurous zip lining experience, entertainment & shows such as the famous Penn & Teller show, slots and gaming tables, amazing night club and lounge, four swimming pools, workout facility, coffee shops, cafes, shopping boutiques, and luxurious spa, most guests won’t want to leave this exquisite home away from home, where we’ll definitely be mixing business with pleasure. But everything Rio has to offer is exactly what you’ll need to wind down after a day of intense, information-filled, rigorous learning sessions.

Thanks to a generous sponsor, for the next 10 people to register (new registrations only) for all three days of the conference at full price (can't be combined with other specials/offers/discounts), you will receive three FREE hotel nights at the host hotel for all three nights of the conference. Be sure upon checkout when asked if you have a discount code to put HOTEL. Can't make it all three days so you need to book your hotel separately, we have a block of hotel rooms for as low as $49 per night. Visit https://book.passkey.com/go/SRPPC9 to book your room. And feel free to share this link with anyone you know who will be visiting Vegas during the dates of 9/25-9/29 so they can take advantage of this amazingly deeply discounted hotel rate. But hurry, as you must book by September 9, 2019 to get the hotel room discount (yes, this is an extension from the original August 26, 2019 date).

If you are local and the hotel scholarship won't benefit you, then, thanks to another anonymous individual donor who has graciously agreed to offset five attendees' registrations, register for only one day of the conference, and be upgraded to all three days. Be sure, upon checkout, when asked if you have a discount code, to put LOCAL.

The conference is right around the corner, and so are the tools, resources, strategies, and techniques you need to help you reach both literary and financial literary success!

See you in Vegas!

Who is this conference for besides authors and writers?

If you are any type of entrepreneur you should have a book, workbook, journal, planner, manual, how-to guide—some type of publication to extend your reach and help you claim your expert status—this conference is for you! A book should be part of every business.

Every professional speaker needs an extension of their message. How many times did you finish speaking and the audience asked you where they can purchase your book . . . and you didn't have one? Why are you not only leaving money on the table, but leaving an audience that you can continue to help with nothing?

YouTubers and bloggers, isn’t’ it time you share your skills and know-how in print beyond the internet? Ready to extend your reach from the cyber world to the real world? Then this conference is definitely for you as well.

Don’t want to publish your own story but want to help publish others’? We can provide you the information, resources, and services needed to become a publisher/publishing imprint/small press.

Pastors, preachers, ministers, and apostles: Your morning message should still have life come the next day . . . and the day after that. It should be able to reach those outside the church walls. Where is your publication? If you don't have one, at the conference you'll learn how to turn your messages into a publication that can reach the masses. Do you already have a publication and it's not reaching the masses, we can help you fix that too.

Along your life's journey, whether you did everything wrong or everything right, there is something you can teach/share with others. There is something inside of you that can change, alter, and save someone else's life. You have someone else's portion inside of you. And as long as you keep it to yourself--as long as you keep it inside of you--you are starving them. It's time you feed the people.

Conference Main Instructor

The conference will be instructed by almost 20-year literary vet, Joylynn M. Ross, aka, "The Literary-Know-It-All." Given the name because Joylynn wants authors to know it all when it comes to their literary careers.

Joylynn formed her own publishing company in 2000, where she self-published her books until landing a book deal with St. Martin's Press. Almost 20 years later, Joylynn has been the content development editor for Triple Crown Publications; she was the acquisitions and developmental editor for Carl Weber’s Urban Christian imprint for 10 years; she’s agented authors who have book deals with Simon and Schuster, Kensington, and Urban Books; and Joylynn has done ghostwriting, write-behinds, and literary consulting (both freelance and for publishing houses). Her clients have included New York Times Bestselling authors, entertainers, aspiring authors, veteran authors, as well as first-time authors. Some notable literary consulting clients include actor Christian Keyes, singer Olivia Longott, and reality television star, Shereé M. Whitfield of “Real Housewives of Atlanta.”

In addition to instructing one-on-one and group in-person and live online courses, Joylynn is excited and eager to teach the curriculum at the 2019 Path To Publishing Conference that she claims will help authors and writers, “Get their literary life . . . or resuscitate it.”

One of Joylynn's marketing taglines is, "I guarantee that without me as your literary consultant/publishing coach (whether you are traditionally published or self-published), you will waste more money on the mistakes you make, and you will lose more money on the steps you miss than you would have spent on my invoice."

TESTIMONIALS

Monique Chandler, MBA, International Distinguished Toastmasters,  Author of Reconnecting With Your Happy

"Joylynn is a literary moving force; one that is personable, productive, and professional."

Cynthia Haynes Asmond   Educator, Author of Poverty Tested, Prosperity Approved

“Joylynn is indeed a manufacturer of authors! Her knowledge and education for editing, and as a literary consultant, speaks volumes. She is very optimistic, passionate, and intense. Because of her, my book is perfectly written and powerful! She is the greatest link to my destiny. Joylynn's editorial instructions allowed me to think and critique beyond my best effort as an author. Her joy and smiles are present while she works. She has made it possible for me to reach heights and territories beyond my imagination!”

Would You Like To Be A Presenter At The 2019 Conference?

The conference advisory board decided for the 2018 conference and all future conferences that speakers, instructors, and

presenters would be chosen among those who are registered for the conference, as well as representatives from the

companies who will be exhibiting or sponsoring the conference.

Our decision was based on the fact that some of the attendees, exhibitors, and sponsors provide services, workshops,  workbooks, and business books and tools that will benefit their peers at the conference. A great deal of those registering for  the  conference (although some were aspiring and new writers), were already excelling literary wise, but understood we are  part of an  ever-changing  industry where  there is always something more to learn; something that would allow them to  level-up and grow-up their business. We found that many were experts in certain areas, and that it only  made sense for  them to share their expertise with other conference attendees on a platform outside of typical conference networking and  conversation. They were already vested and committed to the Path To Publishing mission, so it made sense, when seeking  presenters, to  fish within the talented pool of registered attendees.

Regardless of where we are on our literary journey, we all have more to learn and something to teach based on what we've already learned. That's the reason why we don't bring in guest presenters who have a plane to catch, meaning they get flown in to share a few pointers and then make a quick exit; presenters that are not right there with us in the trenches wanting to learn more, some who are no longer accessible after their presentations.

Proposals are required, reviewed, and voted on by the conference advisory board. If you plan on registering for the

conference and know you can add value as a presenter, after you have registered, please submit a proposal to teach a 90-minute breakout session.

Conference Guarantee:

No other single conference, seminar, webinar, book, consultant, coach, mentor etc. has or will provide you everything you will receive at the "Act Like an Author, Think Like a Business" full conference. We guarantee that even if you’ve already published a book before, you missed a step (or two, or even a few!) that could be costing you money or keeping you from making money.

What information is being provided (General Sessions)?

Day One: Building Your Book From the Ground Up (step-by step instruction of the self-publishing process)

Day Two: Building Your Literary Business from the Ground Up (teaching authors and writers how they should be operating as a business)

Day Three: Turning Your Book Into a Business (teaching writers/authors how to earn money beyond book sales by creating multiple streams of income).

An author's book is the vehicle they put on the road for their literary journey. On Day One of the conference, we help you build your dream car.

Day One of the conference is step-by-step instruction on how to self-publish without missing a beat! Even if you have already self-published before, we can guarantee that there is a step or two (or even a few) you missed along the process. Don't you want to go back and get it right? After all, when we know better, we do better. Come learn exactly what you need to do better.

If there was a pothole on your path to publishing you were stuck in, delaying you from reaching your literary goals, wouldn't you want the resources necessary to fill-in that pothole and get your vehicle (book) back on the road toward literary success? If so, then Day One of the conference is a must for you.
Day One will cover all five aspects of self-publishing:

-Writing
-Editing
-Design
-Process
-Marketing

Writing your book can be a passion, hobby, even a ministry, but selling the book is a business.
Day Two of the conference's instruction will be all about building your literary business. Even if you haven't built your book yet, knowing what is required of you as an author/publisher is not something that you want to take lightly. The last thing you want to do is spend time, money, and energy building your dream book and literary business, only for Uncle Sam to come along and not only crush your business, but crush your dreams as well.

On Day Two you will learn about:
-Incorporating (or “doing business as”)
-Naming your book business/publishing imprint
-Separating business from personal
-Tracking income/expenses
-Taxes
-Accountant

Businesses don't make money, people do. As an author/writer, it's your job to earn the money to sustain your literary business and keep it thriving.

Day Three is for any serious author or writer who is ready to take their literary business/career to the next level. If you're ready to generate multiple streams of income as an author/writer to keep your business thriving, then you definitely don’t want to miss this session.

On Day Three you will learn:
-How to turn your book/writing into a business
-How to make money beyond book sales
-How to get other people to pay for your business endeavors
-How to secure paid writing gigs
-How to get grants and sponsors
-Professional titles you wear besides “author/writer”
-How to increase book sales without directly selling books
-How to make money from content you write outside of books

At this conference we mean business and will be about our business. It’s no coincidence the Caesars Entertainment’s (Rio’s parent company) motto is “Caesars Means Business,” because so do we. But we will be mixing business with pleasure, as Rio offers a zip lining experience with free admission into the lounge afterward. There will be group discounted spa opportunities as well as a mixer at Rio’s award-winning steakhouse. Or maybe you’d like to enjoy a show like Cirque Du Soleil.

This conference is an investment in your business. It’s a business expense, which means it can ultimately be a tax write-off (which you’ll learn more about during Day Two of the conference).

There will be opportunities for attendees to attend evening receptions and coaching sessions in the Masquerade suite.

BONUSES!!!

As a bonus for registering for the conference, you will receive access to the private Path To Publishing Facebook group. The Path To Publishing "Act Like an Author, Think Like a Business" 2019 Conference is going to be three information-filled days of intense and rigorous learning. You'll be less overwhelmed if you're better equipped and prepared upon arriving. It makes sense to learn all that you can, including industry terminology, prior to arriving. At least that way you're somewhat in-the-know, and we can spend less time answering questions during the main session and more time learning new information.

Make the most out of your membership by being active. Participate in and initiate discussions, chats, and Q &A's. Mark your calendar and set your clock for the live sessions (or at least go back and watch the replay of the videos). Network and form a relationship with other conference attendees prior to the conference. In the private group you can share your personal experiences on your literary journey as well as take heed to what others are doing right and have done wrong; we can always learn from both.

That's the purpose of the private group; to share information with you that, due to the timing constraints of the conference, you may otherwise not have gotten to receive. It's kind of like an appetizer and your salad, with the main course being served at the actual conference.

If you join the group late, take a Saturday morning, grab your coffee or tea, and scroll through the group timeline to see if you missed anything. You are a #Pathfinder. Get on the right path toward literary success and stay on it!

Random registrants will receive a literary swag bag, valued at over $700, which includes a one-hour virtual party, blog/blog radio tour, writing coaching session, social media coaching session, and a one-page downloadable EPK (Electronic Press Kit).

Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino has special rates and concessions for attendees staying on site. Take advantage of Rio's special suite rates (with rooms large enough to bring friends and family along) by visiting the special group link below. There's a limited number of rooms, so don't delay.

Random attendees will receive a Diamond Club upgrade, which means you will receive VIP status at all Caesars Entertainment properties in Las Vegas for the duration of the conference. To be eligible, attendee must register for Wednesday-Sunday (September 25-29, 2019) nights. The cardholder and one guest will enjoy free food and drinks in the private lounge at either Rio, Caesars Palace, Bally’s, Paris, Planet Hollywood, the Cromwell, Harrah’s, The Flamingo, or LINQ. The card will also allow the cardholder and their party to skip general seating lines at the hotel restaurants and reservation check-in.

What People Are Saying About the Conference:

Ned Barnett, CEO of Barnett Marketing Communications, Barnett Literary Agency, author of 38 published books

“I recently attended Act Like an Author, Think Like a Business Conference, the most remarkable conference for writers I’ve experienced in a long writing career. This conference focused not on writing, nor on seeking out agents or publishers—which is the norm for even the best writer’s conferences—but instead, focused on the business of writing. In three intensive days, I filled several notebooks with revelations about the business of writing that I had not found or figured out in nearly four decades of writing and publishing books. Central to this conference was host Joylynn Ross, who—over a period of 20 years—has worked with or for the staff of publishers like St. Martin’s Press, Kensington, Simon & Schuster and Urban Books, as well as literary agencies and other enterprises on the business side of writing. Her insights, tips and—yes, secrets—were incredible.  As someone who’s attended graduate school twice, pursuing two business-related degrees, I was astounded to find the conference operating at the MBA level. It really was that good!”

Norma McLauchlin, CEO & Founder of Chosen Pen Publishing

“Before attending the Act Like an Author, Think Like A Business Conference, I thought I knew the direction I was going as a writer and publisher. Well, after attending this conference, I realized not only was I lacking in my ability to monetize my books, but that if I couldn’t do it for myself as an author, and if I wasn't able to understand the difference between publishing a book and being on a journey that will result in building a literary empire, I wouldn’t be able to, as a publisher, help my clients do it. But today, I can say I have put everything I learned at the conference into practice, and all parties involved are on their way to literary success! I recommend this conference to all who aspire to be the best they can be in the literary industry. No other conference offers what this one does. You get more than your money’s worth for the full 24 to 30 hours of uninterrupted training — excellent instructors, facilitators, presenters, and meeting space. Oh, and the fresh and delicious food was unforgettable. Not a pasta plate to be had. This conference far exceeded my expectations. I know of no other conference that offers such a high caliber curriculum presented by an instructor that has you riveted to your seat while absorbing as much new information as possible. I recommend the Act Like an Author, Think Like a Business Conference to all in the literary industry.”

Sheryl Green, Author of Surviving to Thriving

I'm an author and book coach and have been writing for 10 years now. Attending the Act Like an Author Think Like a Business Conference caused me to see writing in an entirely different light. I've implemented many of the suggestions Joylynn, the main instructor, made, and I've been really pleased with the results. This is a great conference for every writer, no matter what stage you're in."

Stephanie Bridges, Founder and Publisher of In Spirit Power and Truth Publishing, LLC

“Because of the Act Like an Author, Think Like a Business Conference, I now have the tools and information necessary to run my writing career like a business and utilize my platform to help others soar. Conference instructor, Joylynn M. Ross, placed multiple opportunities in my lap before I even touched down in Vegas (home of the conference)—she created space within her platform to help me build a growing network of hundreds of readers, writers, and literary professionals. If you want to grow, then go!”

You shouldn't have to choose between a vacation and investing in your business.

It's a no-brainer!

Every attendee who registers using the link to the conference discounted hotel block will receive a free pass to the host hotel’s rooftop lounge.

At the "Act Like an Author, Think Like a Business" 2019 Conference in Las Vegas, you can mix business with pleasure.
